WHISTLER OLYMPIC PLAZA
Scheduling became our biggest challenge as we were forced to wait for others to complete their scope of work, causing us to be delayed by 3-4 weeks. Nevertheless, we still had a Grand Opening deadline to achieve, which meant we needed to pick up the slack and make it happen.
Solution: Key components to our work on this project included construction of an outdoor stage under a Pavilion roof (green roof). We were also responsible for the supporting building which included backstage dressing rooms and a concession. The design involved the coordination and installation of high tech entertainment electrical and lighting systems.
The project was completed on schedule on August 27, 2011 and opened to a performance from the Sam Roberts Band taken in by 5,000 spectators. This venue continues to be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Whenever there is an event or concert held at the facility we share a great sense of pride as a result of our involvement with this important piece of the Whistler Olympic Legacy.
COAST MEDICAL CLINIC
Solution: This Tenant Improvement project involved working closely with our client and Moeski Design Agency, to build Coast Medical according to their design vision. The space had previously been a retail photo shop, which meant the transformation to a medical clinic was extensive; however, the tight timeline for completion needed to be met in order to coincide with the arrival of the resident Doctor, who would be practicing out of this clinic.
Our client and the designer were delighted to have the clinic open on-time, on-budget and hassle free. Clients of Coast Medical appreciate the fresh, inviting space and the staff is pleased with their efficient and comfortable surroundings.
CAN-SKI INTRAWEST STORE
Solution: This multi-faceted project included taking a base building and making it fully operational, with all tenant improvements completed on time. Working closely with the designers and owner’s representatives, we incorporated creative ideas and construction methods to reduce costs and achieve our opening date. The project was completed successfully and received plenty of positive response from the client, customers, and staff.
FOUR SEASONS SKI CONCIERGE
Solution: We converted an existing retail space into the ski valet, complete with a ski and snowboard equipment storage and servicing system. This intricate project involved numerous changes to the design throughout the construction process, and the Peak Ventures team was instrumental in finding the appropriate solutions. Our client was very pleased with our high level of professionalism, our ability to manage the sub trades and expedite the required materials, our drive to meet their tight deadline, and our skill to complete the project with a level of quality and service deserving of a Four Seasons Hotel.
“Projects involved intricate details and a very challenging schedule that Peak Ventures met with great success and professionalism. During the course of construction our design team made numerous changes that Peak Ventures responded to with fluid solutions and expedited the required materials and trades to complete the tasks. I would not hesitate to recommend Dave and his team to anyone looking for a commercial construction contractor.”
LE CHAMOIS HOTEL
Challenges: Included difficult access to building components, scheduled work being performed while commercial tenants remained open. Additionally, our scope of work was expanded; resulting in more compressed work in same schedule, and inclement weather resulted in the need to heat/hoard to ensure cladding cured properly.
Solution: The existing failed Face Seal wall cladding system was removed and replaced with an EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish System rain screen) which was composed of spray foam closed cell insulation installed between wall studs, insulated exterior gyproc sheathing with a rainscreen exterior expanded polystyrene rigid insulation covered with a stucco finish. Deteriorated steel studs were replaced. We refurbished existing windows inside/out instead of replacement and because of that, saved the project in excess of $1M.The project scope was expanded to include refurbishment of the pool and pool deck, balconies and targeted roof repairs.
Property now has a robust rainscreen wall cladding system which has eliminated the water ingress and substantially improved saleability of the properties.
I had the pleasure of being the Engineer on Record on projects completed under the direction and supervision of David Girard. David and his personnel were professional, creative, honest, budget conscious and provided an exceptional product.
I look forward to the opportunity of working with Mr. Girard on future projects and would not hesitate to recommend David or his firm.
FIRE ATTACK BASE
Solution: The project involved separating the entire existing building from its original foundation. The building was lifted, being temporarily supported, while we formed and poured a new foundation which was 1.5 metres higher so as to combat 200 year flood events. In addition to the raised foundation, we also added substantial useable square footage to the ‘Attack Base’ building to provide a more efficient workspace for its occupants.
